Appendiceal mucinous neoplasm frequency : 0.1 - 0.4 % of all appendeceomy specimuns 49% symptomatic : malignant appendiceal mucnious neoplasm more frequently become symptomatic - abeominal pain, palpable abdominal mass, abdominal disension, weight loss Imaging findings - round, thin-walled, encapsulated cystic mass - comjunicates with cecum - content : homogenous, water-soft tissue attenuation (mucin or debris) - calcifications of appendiceal wall (~50%)
Rupture of mucinous neoplasm cause pseudomyxoma perionei - diffuse, gelatinous, cellular ascites US : thick gelatinous fluid usually not mobile with maneuver CT : mass-effect and distortion of bowel, scalloping of surfaces of solid organ |
