Submission Deadlines

Paper/Poster Abstract Submission Deadline: Tuesday, October 2, 2018, 5 PM CDT

Power Science Abstract Submission Deadline: Wednesday, December 5, 2018, 5 PM CDT

Guidelines for Scientific Paper and Scientific and Educational Poster Abstracts


1. At least one author must be an SAR, ASAR, ESUR or ESGAR member. The last day to submit an SAR membership application, in order for an abstract submission to be considered, is Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 5 PM CDT. Consideration of an abstract will be contingent on approval of the membership application.


2. Power Science abstract submitters must be a new clinical abdominal radiology fellow with a fellowship start date of July 1, 2018. Proof of fellowship status must be uploaded during the abstract submission process. If your fellowship began prior to July 1, 2018, you are not eligible for this special new fellows' session and must submit your abstract using the general paper/poster submission roles by the Tuesday, October 2, 2018 deadline.


3. Do NOT submit the same abstract multiple times. All abstracts will be considered equally and placed in the appropriate session. Paper submitters will have the opportunity to indicate their interest in also being considered for poster presentation.


4. Abstracts for papers and posters should be limited to 250 words/1800 characters and divided into four paragraphs with the following headings:


Scientific Papers and Posters (Including Power Science Submissions)
  • Purpose 
  • Materials and Methods 
  • Results (including statistical significance when needed) 
  • Conclusions (including clinical relevance)


Educational Posters
  • Learning Objectives/Aims 
  • Background 
  • Content 
  • Summary and Clinical Implications

5. All posters must be in electronic format. Please carefully review the poster guidelines prior to submitting your abstract to ensure that you can meet the requirements. Electronic Posters will be available for onsite viewing Sunday, March 17 - Friday, March 22, 2019 and posted on the meeting website for a brief period of time before and after the meeting. Click here to view the Electronic Poster Guidelines.


6. Abstracts submitted for consideration as educational poster exhibits must include five content-related slides as well as the abstract. Please submit five slides (without video or animation), which should include a title slide, two or three image and content slides, and a conclusion slide that includes clinical implications. A decision regarding acceptance of the abstract will depend on the review of both the abstract and the slides.


7. Travel Scholarship for Trainees: All fellows, residents and medical students are eligible for the Travel Scholarship for Trainees provided for oral presentation of a scientific abstract at the annual meeting. Awarding of this $1000 scholarship is based on the merit of the abstract. You will have the opportunity to indicate interest in this scholarship during abstract submission.


8. Submission must be in electronic format (hard copy submission will not be accepted). Click here to submit your abstract online. You will receive an email confirmation once your abstract has been submitted. You may revisit the site as many times as needed to revise information and add additional submissions prior to the deadline.


9. Paper and Poster presenting authors will be notified of acceptance decisions via email by Friday, November 9, 2018. Power Science authors will be notified of acceptance decisions via email by Tuesday, December 18, 2018. A list of selected abstracts will also be posted on the SAR website by these dates as well.


10. Papers accepted for presentation will have a strict time limit of 6 minutes for presentation followed by a brief period for questions from the audience. Given the short presentation time and the subspecialization of our audience, we suggest minimizing the use of background slides to one slide only to allow more time to focus on the methodology and conclusion of your research. Scientific sessions may include some commentary from field experts.


11. Power Science abstracts accepted for oral presentation will have a strict time limit of 3 minutes for presentation. A mandatory 5-slide PowerPoint template will be provided for use during oral presentation. Presenters will also be required to submit a poster exhibit to accompany the oral presentation and attend a separate Q&A session scheduled for Monday, March 18, 2019 during the morning break. 12. At least one author for all accepted presentations must register for the meeting and pay corresponding registration, travel and accommodation expenses.


13. The SAR Scientific Sessions are closed sessions for member attendees. As such, presenting your paper at the SAR Annual Scientific Meeting should not preclude you from presenting elsewhere. Papers and posters that have been presented previously at a closed session of another society are eligible for presentation at the meeting; the SAR does not accept previously published papers or posters.
